I find this to be such a difficult topic to wrap my head around, thank you for writing this. I agree that consuming things have become more of a need than want in recent years, at the same time no one is putting a gun to our heads and makes us buy things. Culturally, however, we are somewhat forced to fit in, making it necessary to buy certain things.
Loved this read so much! It’s definitely a rabbit hole to discover all that has influenced us throughout our lives to consume. And on top of that there’s also endorphins and dopamine release after a purchase. Hard to fight such an addiction that seems harmless. And i loved how you touched on our identities being shaped by what we own. As that shouldn’t be the case, i still enjoy expressing myself with fashion. it’s a good question to ask ourselves if we’re dependent on external material to show who we are and ask for validation through it. Thank you for your work 🤍
"Hard to fight such an addiction that seems harmless," , that just sums up how i feel about shopping sometimes. really thank you so much for reading and i am so glad you liked this post! 🫶
i love this!! i am definitely a bit of a shopaholic, always saying that it’s my therapy isn’t of actually going to therapy… this piece was really interesting and the way you talk about your friend reminds me a little of dolly alderton’s advice column (and she is one of my favourite writers)! 🙌🏼🤍
